the details!

Okay... so here goes!
Friday May 23rd in NYC!
So, Edna and I woke up bright and early Friday morn. We were on our way by 8am, first stop New Haven train station. It took us about 2 hours to get there. When we arrived we purchased our round trip tickets to NYC. I had to go to the bathroom, but with only 7 minutes before the train left I checked out the bathroom and there was a line. We asked a worker if there was a bathroom on the trian, she said yes there are, but with the look on her face i said "what??" she said "i wouldn't use them!" so, we boarded and i hoped i would make it to NYC. it was about an our and 45 min trip. when we got there we found the bathroom and the line was out the door there too. we decided to find a restaurant, get a drink and something to drink...and i could then use their bathroom. first place we found was TGI Fridays. Edna found us a seat at the bar while i took care of business. when i got back she was like christy, look at these prices!! it was $15.99 for a cheeseburger!! we ended up each getting a soda and we shared a quesidilla... grand total $21!! unreal!!
we then headed to Time Square.. that place was a MADHOUSE!! but it was just as big and beautiful as i imagined it to be. after Time Square we headed down to Franks place. He wanted to show us where he lived and the view!! it was an AMAZING VIEW! i am soo scared of heights but, i couldn't let this chance pass me by... after all, not everyone gets to see a view of NYC like we did there! We headed out to lunch with Frank and his friend Matt to this little cafe that was apparently where the girls from sex and the city shot scenes from the show. I can't recall the name of it. it was a bit of work to get the right order for me... i ordered a hamburger... ended up with the same buffalo chicken sandwich that edna ordered.... i said this is supposed to be a cheeseburger.. not sure if he didn't believe i ordered that or not, he checked out what he put the order in for and he said "you are right" duh i am right, i ordered it!! so they come out with a burger for me. i pull off the bun and there is a HUGE portabella mushroom on it! i said ummmm this looks like a big fat mushroom not cheese!! finally i got my food... it was delish... but it took long enough to get it right. i figured we would get comped drinks or something... or a free burger... but no dice. he just apologized and i had to pay $10 for my burger! actually now that i think about it he may not have charged me $1.00 for my cheese. that makes it much better!! after lunch Edna and I said our goodbyes to the boys (matt lived in MN for 8 years and loved my accent... he didn't want to say goodbye, he just wanted me to keep talking!) Edna and I then headed down to Ground Zero, and then to Battery Park where i saw the statute of liberty. she was very tiny from as far away as we were... but still happy we did it. on the way back to the train station we also saw wall street. We got to the train station and I had my first NYC pretzel. i was sad, it was very dry :(. we took the train in and arrived in New Haven around 945. we took the long way to Jacks house (only b/c we got lost).. it took us 25 min in what should have taken maybe 5!! when we got to Jacks, i got to meet his girlfriend jennifer and then we headed out for some pizza. after pizza we went back to jacks and played apples to apples. a game edna never played before, but ended up kicking all our butts!
Saturday May 24th, NYC
We got up and Jack cooked us an awesome breakfast, french toast... mmm... then we headed back into NYC for the day, this time with Jack. We took the train in again and once we got in we headed out to Central Park. it was beautiful! first thing we did was buy a hot dog when we got to CP. it was soo good. we walked around took photos, sat on the lawn (to people watch). then we walked some more when jacks friend called us... he wanted to meet us at this German bar. we had to head that way anyway, b/c i left my camera case at franks house the day before... it was just 10 blocks from franks so we told him to meet us there. It was called Hallo Berlin. We sat out back on the patio. we had german beer and sausages... i ordered veil, which i was thinking was venison... then he told me what veil was... i couldn't finish eating it!! just had to have another beer! Frank forgot to bring my camera case to the bar, so we headed back to franks place.. it was okay cuz we got to see the roof again, plus jack didn't get to see it yet. we went up and took more photos... and poor jacks camera fell to its demise. :( sorry about that jack! Frank had to go to work then, and we decided to walk a little more round town before heading back. I got some sweatshirts and other souvenirs. and right before getting to the train station i saw a small pizza place... Bravo Pizza where i bought my first slice of NYC pizza. it was pepperoni and ham... sooo good. frank said that NYC has the best water and said that its the water in the dough that makes it sooo good. whatever it was.. i loved it! we then went to the train station and said good bye to new york!
Sunday May 25th, Cape Cod, MA
Edna and I woke up and got moving by 10am sunday morning. We said goodbye and thanked jack for letting us hang out at his place over the last two nights. Then headed out to Cape Cod. It took us about 3 hours to get from New haven to Cape Cod (going from ct, thru road island-which took us 30 min-then back to Mass). When we got there we went right to Hyannis, the town where the Kennedy's live, or stay... We walked up and down Main street where we had lunch I think it was called Schooner's. I had fish and chips... sooo freaking good. i haven't ever had fish that was sooooooo good. no fishy taste at all, sooo fresh. I had contemplated getting their lobster roll, but thought that i would wait till we got to Maine to have lobster. we headed to the little gift shop that had sweatshirts and teeshirts that were so inexpensive i ended up getting teeshirts for dad and brandon and a sweatshirt for me, mom and stef. after this we went down Ocean ave to go to the ocean. we found a memorial to JFK and parked there, on the other side of the memorial was the ocean. it was an awesome day out, the sun was shining and everyone was out enjoying the weather. after hanging out there a while we went to a little ice cream shop where enda got a bowl of toffee ice cream and i got a 'green monster' that was mint ice cream with fudge, and oreo cookies broken up in it.. mmmmmm... we then headed up to Bridgewater where we went to the birthday party of one of edna's friends husbands. we were there a couple hours before heading home. we talked about my accent, again... i was a big hit with my accent! i loved their accent though. When we got home we both showered and got all dolled up to go out for some beer. We went to a place called the Mad Raven (an irish bar) where i had a bloody mary (probably the most boring bloody i have ever had) and a beer... after that we headed to a second irish bar, that i can't recall the name of. we had 2 beers there. We had these boys take our photo, they asked us to join them, so we did. I just liked talking to people from out east cuz their accent is fun! these two were from New Hampshire.. when we went to sit down with them they had called last call, so we didn't talk much with them... but they made fun of my accent... i just dont get it!! anyhow, after close we went back to endas place opened some beer and then didn't drink any of it!! we were both tired so we went to bed!
Monday May 26th, Salem, Gloucester Mass and York Maine
Monday morning we headed out after sleeping in till 10 (latest we did all weekend!) we stopped at Dunkin Donuts (which is huge out east). i didn't have a donut, but a bagel, and it was quite tasty! we first headed up to Salem, MA. I saw a memorial that was for the women that were hanged as they were suspect of being a witch. we also saw a pirate ship... it was a cute little town. there were guys on bikes with baskets.. they kept trying to get enda and me on their bike... they were like its free! one of them stopped and had a lady in the back already... sounded like he was ready to kick her out to get us on the bike! it was funny. after Salem we headed to Gloucester. This is where they filmed the movie "the Perfect Storm" we walked along the board walk and had a guy come up to us and tell us about the memorial to the men lost at sea. there were thousands of them listed. He said that his father was one of them that was listed. He said the only men listed on the memorial were men from boston. he said the ship that went down with his father had 14 people on it, but only 7 were listed on the memorial. He also told us that the statute there was not the Gortons sailor on the frozen fish. he really wanted us to know that! He also pointed out a white building to the north of us, he said it was the first frozen food factory in the world. We thanked him for his info... and he disappeared... edna and i started talking, then we looked around and couldn't find him. we are pretty sure he was a ghost!! After Gloucester we headed up to Maine thru New Hampshire (if you are counting, that is 6 states in 5 days!) we noticed a lot of traffic coming south, we figured we would be there long enough for everyone to get home. when we got to York, we stopped at the Sun and Surf for lunch... i had my lobster roll... $16.99 and worth every PENNY! Our waiter told us that he has had people come from across america for their lobster roll, and now i know why!! sooo freaking YUMMY! i gobbeled it up so fast i didn't even get to offer edna a bite!! she had fish, i got a piece of hers... sooo good too!! if you have had fish and lobster that haven't been from the east, you haven't had fish and lobster... i had lobster here in MN once and i was sure i hated it... but after that lobster roll.... mmm no more do i hate lobster :) wont be eating it here in MN though! after lunch we headed out to the Nubble lighthouse. we hung out there for a while, not too long though, as the wind coming in was sooo stinking cold from the ocean! we got some great photos though. after visiting the nubble light house we headed back home.
I didn't sleep well that night... i had to be up at 4am as my flight took off at 630 ( yeah thats 3am our time!) got on the plane and slept on and off, then had a 3 and a half hour layover in milwaukee. Got into the HHterminal and headed into the bathroom, when i got down to the baggage claim i see that everyone has already picked up their stuff and is walking away from the thingy... i look around... no bag of mine!! i was like GREAT! went to this door where a lady was working, she told me that i would have to go see the midwest ticketing counter... right as i walked up a guy told me that they have my bag, it just arrived before me (he saw the crazy bright blue color of the one bag i did have!). i was so thankful! Then mom picked me up, and we went shopping for some flowers! i got her 2 perennials for her garden for mothers day!
Now i have the rest of the week off to relax... i did sooo much walking over the last week. i feel good! today i purchased the first 2 seasons of sex and the city... it has peaked my interest since i sat and ate at the very diner they gathered at! they were on sale at Best Buy for $15.99, so i figured what the heck. plus i hear its supposed to rain all day tomorrow, so i will sit down with a glass of wine (or 8) and watch sex and the city!
dont forget to check out my photos! www.flickr.com/photos/keps1230
hope all is well with everyone!
