Okay I am sure that drivers all over this country suck. But i really and truly believe that we have some of the worst drivers here in MN. I'm going to start a new thing on this blog where i complain about the weird crap i see on the road. This upcoming story happened to me last week... it is something that drives me CRAZY about Minnesotan drivers.
I am merging from Pilot Knob road to 35e southbound on my way home to Burnsville. As we are on the entrance ramp I notice that the woman driving in front of me is barely accelerating. If you are familiar with the area, you know that this entrance ramp is almost a dang mile long, so you have a LONG time to get up to speed as you are supposed to on these ramps. and if ou are not familiar, the highway is 3 lanes wide at this part of 35e's stretch. So, here I am behind Slowpoke McGee going about 50 to merge. I look to my left, and there is no one in the right lane, so me and Slowpoke McGee will be able to get on without worrying about being run over by someone doing the speed limit (70 mph). We merge... we continue on 35e continuing a pace of 55mph. There are cars in the left and middle lanes rushing by us, I had to wait for my moment to be able to get to the middle lane so I could get up to the speed limit of 70 miles per hour. Keep in mind there was NO ONE in front of Slowpoke that was keeping us going 55. As we all know, no one in MN drives in the right lane. We will get to that later. I was behind Slowpoke McGee for a good mile before I had my opportunity. And when that last car passed me to my left I pulled into the middle lane, and pass Ms McGee at the appropriate speed of 70 mph. Once I pass her, I look in my rear view mirror and see Slowpoke signal and pull into the middle lane... and then signal again (and by this time we are a good distance in front of her b/c she's still going 55) she signals again and goes directly into the LEFT LANE.
I don't know if you know this or not, but the left lane is for PASSING vehicles... not for taking a 55mph stroll on a 70mph speedway. I see this over and over and over again in this state... people using the left lane to drive in. The middle (when available) and the right lanes are for driving in. You use the left lane to pass Slowpoke McGee... but not in this state. it's ass backwards and people drive along like it's no body's business but their own to be there. I will be driving on a Saturday afternoon in the middle or right lane and look to the left lane. there are strings of 10 to 15 cars driving along in the left lane with no one in the right lane. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MINNESOTA DRIVERS?!?! If you aren't passing someone you should not be in the left lane. And when you pass that person, move over to the right or middle lane. it's not that tough people.
Now I know there are times this does not work out so well, like rush hour. of course all lanes will be backed up at this point. but i don't know if you've noticed, but its usually the left lane that comes to a complete stop before any of the other lanes do, and it's because everyone thinks they should be in the left lane.
Screw you Slowpoke McGee... if you don't want to drive the speed limit, stay out of the left lane. Better yet, stay off the highway.
